Word up day one
That's looking out from my hostel room in downtown Rome. I spent a thoroughly retarded two hours last night trying to find a place to sleep. I took the train from the airport which shuttled me right downtown for 9 euro, and left the (freaking wicked I must say) main Termine station in the rain for a bed at 7 pm (pardon me, 19:00). After tons of walking around to hostels with a spare bed "over thataway", (which of course never were) the receptionist at one of the hostels found me a spot at another place, and by now it was about 9pm, uhh, 21:00?
I'm quite pleased with how well I held my head about me... I hadn't slept for more than 24 hours, it was raining, 21:00, and I had no bed. Mini Geordan wanted to sit down, cry and whine and think about being home and building Lego, but he was crushed with a vanquishing blow to his right temple, subdueing the death spiral of homelust until it would rise from the shadows at some other period of un-comfort.
I had a terrible sleep last night, Italiano Santa Clauso had a bed in my dorm, and we all know how loud Santa Claus snores. He's a freaking lawnmower. I've had about 4 hours of sleep in 48 hours. Gorgeous! Anyways, I'm walking over the to the Vatican with a girl from Melbourne I met at the hostel I'm at, (No jumping to conclusions any of you! First you'd be wrong, and second, you should know better, Australia is a long way from Germany) I'm also in a dorm with a group of guys from New Orleans, an apparently tipsy Italian guy, another girl from downunder and a girl from Brazil, as well as the comfortably plump Italian man.
I'll post more when I get to the other hostel tonight (I'll be staying at The Beehive for those interested). The Internet isn't free here. =D
See ya lazers

Didn't your mother send you off with a set of her earplugs?

Hey Geordan: Uncle Joel here. Rome is a wonderful place. You will want to see the actual prison Paul was kept in while writing 1st and 2 Timothy. You have to get an appointment to see it, but well worth any brain damage you go through to see it. Ask anyone where it is.
The whole place is a giant museum. You could walk in any direction and get an eyeful.
Watch out for the gypsys roaming about on the streets (usually a family, mother and several small girls and boys). Absolutely the best pick pocketers in the world. You will generally be approached by a young woman with a child in her arms asking for money, directions or some other kind of help. Even with your wits about you, you will be cleaned out before you know it. Do not let them get within 3 feet of you.
Jacob and I stayed at Hotel Positano on Pallestro Street not far from the main Terminal, but we made reservations many weeks prior over the Internet. They were pretty full much of the time.
Feel free to let me know of the other places you are going to in Europe. I might be able to give you some tips on things to see and places to go -- freemani@comcast.net
You may want to go on one of the walking tours. Very informative. You are in our thoughts and prayers...Uncle Joel

Uncle Steve's right Geordan. Pick up a pair of earplugs at a drugstore. Foam, squishy kind. They take some getting used to, but work so well.
You have no idea how good it is to know you are alive and well - we are praying for you and miss you a lot already.

My headphones work quite well for stuffing out sounds. I used them with some Rachmaninov and was fine. I woke up at 2 for no apparent reason, but I think I fell asleep again around 5.
Uncle Joel: My hostel last night was on Pallestro, cool deal.
Thanks for the tips, I'll definitely look into Pauls prison. That sounds good.
Uncle Steve: My headphones fit into my canal, so I used them with music a bit and then as regular earplugs after a while last night. I don't like the feeling of foam, I might have to get used to it though.
